The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as Equipment Supervisor for our Hilston farming operations. Reporting to the Assistant Farm Manager, you will play a key role in managing the movement and operation of equipment, training plant equipment operators, and liaising with the farm workshop to ensure timely servicing, repairs, and completion of annual preventive maintenance. Your contributions will be critical to the smooth and efficient operation of our farming activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Planning & Implementation: Assist in planning equipment requirements, manage daily operation plans, organise staffing schedules, and ensure safe equipment operation in alignment with the farm's operational plan.
  • Equipment Operation: Ensure all equipment is in safe working condition, train operators on safety procedures, prepare equipment before farming activities, and conduct operational checks (e.g., wheel slip, seed placement, GPS setup).
  • Corrective Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve equipment failures promptly, notify management of breakdowns, and collaborate with workshop staff for timely repairs.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Ensure equipment availability for scheduled maintenance, oversee servicing and repairs, maintain records per manufacturer guidelines, and ensure critical spare parts are readily available.
  • Reports & Record Keeping: Collect weekly pre-operational checklists, maintain farm diaries, and document hazards, safety reports, near misses, and required actions.
  • Staff Management: Lead, motivate, and train staff, foster open communication, and address staff performance issues with the Assistant Farm Manager.

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience in farm equipment operation and maintenance, with a strong understanding of safe operating procedures.
  • Ability to plan and implement daily farming operations, including equipment management and staff scheduling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve equipment issues promptly.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance practices and ensuring equipment uptime.
  • Excellent record-keeping skills and the ability to maintain accurate reports and documentation.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and train staff.
  • Ability to work closely with management and workshop staff to ensure smooth operation and timely repairs.
  • A proactive, organised, and detail-oriented approach to managing equipment and farming activities.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, ensuring all tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Chemical handling certificate
  • Forklift and HC Licences
